Save on decor - Wedding or just your home!

Our wedding style/theme - vintage with a hint of country

When it comes to flowers and centerpieces, it's so easy to go overboard! Luckily, I'm a simple kind of girl so that's what I look for when it comes to our wedding decor. You won't find any grandiose floral arrangements at our wedding! I love the look of mason jars. I need to research when the sun sets in September to know if we're going to need candles. I feel like the photos above portray my vision perfectly.

Since I have 7 months, I plan to hit up my local thrift stores regularly. I'm looking for any interesting glass pieces (mason jars or other vases). I'll probably stop by a thrift store on my way home from work so hopefully I'll have a post later of my findings! I think thrift store finds are going to be perfect for the vintage tone (and our budget!).

So my fiance and I are finally getting the ball rolling with planning our wedding! Our date was April 30, 2011 but that date was fast approaching and we were hurting a bit financially. Well, we've finally set a [permanent] date of September 24, 2011! (We're sending the "Save the Dates" to the printer next month! That's how permanent...)  lol

I'm so excited! Planning a wedding is such an excitement! Luckily, I'm a pretty laid back person so I don't see myself getting too stressed out. :) I can't wait to share our ideas and keep you all up to date on everything!

The details so far -
Date: 9-24-11
Place: My Aunt & Uncle's ranch (outdoor wedding)
Colors: Lapis (purple) and Ivory
Theme/Style: vintage (with a mix of a little country)

I'll keep you updated!! :)

"Instead of complaining that the rosebush is full of thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses." - Proverb

 via
Is this not the cutest perfume bottle ever? I don't even know what this stuff smells like but I want it for the bottle.

My obsessions with mermaids started at a young age. Of course, beginning with the movie The Little Mermaid and leading all the way into tying my feet together when I went swimming in our pool (even if it led to almost drowning once or twice to the lack of being able to actually swim like that... at least I was a "mermaid".) As an adult, I'm a sucker for anything with a mermaid on it. lol Yes, I even bought a child's shirt in an XL at Walmart because it featured The Little Mermaid AND glitter. Win and win.
..........................................................................................................
So I've been MIA from here for about a week now... I apologize! My fiance and I went to Austin last weekend, decided to do some "spring cleaning" on President's day (what a way to spend a holiday!), hit the gym after work on Tuesday, had to leave work early yesterday to make it to my hometown an hour away to get my vehicle registration on Wednesday (and since we were there... might as well visit the family), and now it's Thursday and I'm squeezing in this post before I hit the gym at 7. I miss my days of coming home and having some quality time with my DVR. I've yet to watch the new Real Housewives of Miami but it's still waiting on me!

I've been such a grouch here lately... it's probably good I haven't posted in a while because it'd probably be nothing but gripe, gripe, gripe! lol I'm tired, grouchy, and evidently slept on my hands the other night because I have a constellation on the left side of my chin. (My stupid sensitive skin is so dramatic sometimes...)

Oh, and my fiance and I bought a scale. Bad - effing- idea. The first time I stepped on it I swore it had to be broken. 144lbs? NO FREAKING WAY. I've never weighed that in my life! Then I realized I was fully clothed... and later, I realized my clothes were only 4lbs. (I was seriously convincing myself I had about 12lbs in clothing.) I've got some work to do. I'm working on a diet overhaul and forcing myself to go to the gym.

I guess I'm awaiting that glorious time of month! (That's the only time I tend to get pissed off at whichever way the wind blows... lol) It's ridiculous, I know.

Tomorrow is a new day...

I want to sincerely thank anyone who actually read this whole post :)

OOTD - Friday Eve! Update on the closet project && I need drink recipes! Please share :)

I've been waiting to wear this skirt when the weather warms up and that day finally came. I'm not a huge fan of them. I think they're super cute and stylish but I've always chosen comfort (as in pants) over style. But I'm trying to change that... They say beauty is pain and so are these damn heels.

Wondering how the closet project is coming along?

It's basically not coming along at all because it still looks like this...

I just haven't had any motivation! And now my fiancé and I are going to Austin this weekend so it won't get done anytime soon I fear. But trust me!! IT WILL HAPPEN! So stay tuned.

..................................................................................

Alright all you mixologists out there! I want the best drinks to make without a blender.
What's your favorite alcoholic drink recipe?

Updates about the raise & my closet! (Ok, and a little bit about Valentine's day too...)

Happy Valentine's Day/Singles Awareness Day!
[Hey, I was there once! lol]

My fiancé bought me those gorgeous ivory roses with little purple accent flowers because those are our wedding colors.

We chose an early dinner date to beat the rush so I wore a more casual outfit. I actually bought this shirt just about an hour before going out! I found it at a Plato's Closet and it just looked too comfy not to wear :)
........................................................................................................

Just a few updates:

1. I got my raise :)
[and it was way more than I every imagined!]

2. I'm still working on my closet. I'm such a procrastinator! Thanks for the suggestions so far! [Please feel free to add any more :)]

3. Funny story
My fiance bought me a beautiful diamond necklace this Valentine's day. I had to flat out say to him a few weeks ago, "Babe. I want jewelry for Valentine's day. A meaningful piece of jewelry from you."

He was surprised at how excited I was to get the necklace and he says, "I never thought you were 'into' getting jewelry..."

I replied with, "I'm a woman! Of course I'm 'into' jewelry!"

Glad we got that straight... lol

Shop Your Closet - I need advice!

Because of the blizzard that blew through Dallas last week, I ended up missing 4 days of work. Therefore, I'm really broke this week. lol I've been inspired recently by so many great style blogs that I'm in a fierce shopping mood :)

What's a girl to do to when in need of some retail therapy?
Shop her closet.

That's my goal for this weekend. Get rid of the clothes I don't wear and use some imagination to create new outfits out of the clothes I already own.

I'll take some photos of my journey and next week I'll have pictures, tips, and tricks to share with you all!

What's your number one tip in deciding whether to keep an item of clothing or not??

Please share :)

Perfect Valentine's Day Look! - by Dianna Agron

Dianna Agron is absolutely stunning! I think the look she wore below is the epitome of a perfect Valentine's Day look.

Men are simple creatures. They prefer "natural" makeup and touchable hair over a bold lip and/or a dramatic updo. Dianna pulls this look off beautifully -

The basics: dewy foundation, soft pink blush, a "natural" smoky eye using soft colors, gorgeous long lashes and naturally pink lips. Get the list of the exact products used here.

I love this dress as well. The whole look is just perfect... Just curl your hair with a large barrel curling iron, tease the top a bit (for the volume she has), and pin it half up/half down. Make sure you go light on the hairspray to keep the locks touchable. :)

Happy Early Valentine's Day <3

Current obsession: Leopard print shoes

I am in love with leopard print shoes! They are more versatile than you would think... dress them up or down and somehow they seem to go with everything!

Carrie Underwood rocks a pair of leopard print pumps casually with skinny jeans and a cute blouse -

Julia Roberts paired some super cute leopard print flats with a casual, comfy outfit -

Megan dressed up her leopard print shoes!

I created these ensembles on Polyvore.com to demonstrate a few of my favorite ways to wear leopard print shoes! (That website is so fun!)

Leopard Pump
Wear them with a little black dress, a work ensemble, or on the weekend! (You can switch out flats with the jean look for a more relaxed look)

Now on to a few options -

A few of my favorite stores to keep a look out for inexpensive, trendy shoes - Ross, Marshalls, Charlotte Russe, Forever21, & of course... sale racks. lol

Hopefully I'll be back soon to show you some new leopard print shoes I've found! I'll be on the hunt... lol

If you love this trend too comment below! If not, tell me what you prefer!

Frugalicious Find! (CHI Iron Guard DUPE - Tresemme)

It is essential that you use a heat  protectant on your hair any time you use a heated tool, but that doesn't mean it has to drain your wallet!

One of the best selling "high end" heat sprays - CHI Iron Guard

On sale for $12 on Folica.com

I've been using this heat spray for quite some time now. I absolutely LOVE it! I spray my hair all over with it when I get out of the shower, then I spray pieces while I'm blowdrying, and lastly... I spray it while I'm flat ironing. (Can't be too protected, right?) lol

TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray
Generally $4-$5 at drugstores & Walmart but found it on sale at Drugstore.com for $2.85!

What's your favorite heat tamer?

One simple way to cut calories & how drinking iced water can actually BURN calories!

What's one easy way to cut 100's of calories out of your daily calorie count?

Simply watch what you drink!

Liquid calories can be a sneaky little diet/weight loss sabotager! You can easily drink over 200 calories per day. You've got your morning cup of joe (with cream & sugar if you're like me!), sweet tea, a glass of wine to relax, and maybe a soda to splurge...

Most beverage calorie count is based on 8oz - These little cans are 8oz!
 We rarely drink only 8oz...

Sweet Tea: 70 Calories per 8oz

Mug Rootbeer: 100 Calories per 8oz

Arbor Mist Blackberry Merlot: 160 Calories per 8oz

Coffee Creamer: 35 Calories per 1 tbsp

Now let's add this up to a "daily average" -
You wake up and have your morning coffee (which can easily add up to 150 calories once you add cream and sugar) so that's 130 Calories (optimistically). Now, let's say you have some sweet tea with your lunch (as Texan's often do) so that's an extra 140 Calories (since we know we aren't just drinking 8oz!) Later, you have a glass of wine either with dinner, or after, to wind down so that's 160 Calories.

Total liquid calorie count - 430 Calories
 ............................................................................................................

My secret to cutting the calories without even noticing -

Flavored carbonated water! (Tastes like Cherry 7up to me!)

Zero - No Calories - No Sugar - No Carbs - No Sodium - Zero

Did you know???
That drinking an 8oz glass of ice cold water actually causes you to burn calories? The work your body does to adjust the temperature of the water after you drink it burns calories! If you have your recommended 8 glasses of ice cold water a day - you can burn about 70 Calories per day doing nothing but drinking the water!

That makes water like a negative Calorie drink!

Working Out - Crazy Cold - & Some Dr. Oz Knowledge!

Rather than sit on my butt all day - I decided to get up and do a little workout. I lasted 5 minutes doing Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown so my fiancé, brother, and I decided to take it to the gym.

My brother totally showed me up on those yoga moves. I couldn't even do this one!

Anyone want to go for a swim?

My brother thought he needed a little sun...

I tried to make it look like I was tanning but it's hard to do fully clothed... lol It was below 20 degrees but it felt good since we'd just left the gym.

I'm trying to get in shape (especially by summer!) so I'm sitting on an exercise ball as I type this post lol

A few things I learned from Dr. Oz today:

1. Best time to weigh yourself? First thing in the morning (Find out why)

2. Best time to exercise? In the morning before you eat (Find out why) *Once you eat, you have to burn what you just ate before you burn any fat

3. Best time to eat breakfast? An hour after you wake up (Find out why)

Great ideas...

as opposed to sitting on my butt all day doing nothing :)

This was supposed to be a fashion post... but it's just too damn cold for that.

Day #2 of no work.

Our roads are still iced over so I've been stuck inside all day with my 3 boys... (fiancé and 2 dogs). Aww, look our my babies cuddled on the couch!

I think it's 18 degrees right now in Dallas. My eyes were watering so bad but we managed to get a few pictures to document this record day :)

Well, what to do with the rest of my impromptu 2 day vacation? I think I'll take a long hot bath, drink some hot cocoa, and I really have no excuse so I'll either go to our gym at our apartment or do my Jillian Michaels' DVD I've been putting off...

Baby it's cold outside... so now's the time for potato soup.

It is COLD here in Dallas! I don't know about you guys... but I am NOT a fan! It's supposed to get down to 9 degrees tonight! That's heinous for Dallas weather!

NINE - FREAKIN' - DEGREES

I feel like I can barely breathe when I step outside and the wind feels like a bunch of tiny little needles pricking my skin all at once. Like I said... not a fan.

At least I didn't have work today! Yay! (There's seeing the bright side!) There are inches (yes, inches) of ice built up on our streets. There were so many accidents today! However, my fiance and I managed to make it down the street to the mall where we did a little bit of shopping (although a lot of stores were closed... I was surprised by how many were open!) and we saw No Strings Attached (at which we both laughed hysterically, by the way).

We made a trip by Walmart to buy some soup for tonight (because what's better than warm soup on a freezing night?). Leaving the store, we almost slid into the middle of an intersection. I hate the ice. I was about to have a panic attack in the passenger seat and my poor fiance had the task of keeping me calm while gliding (yes, gliding) us home.

Potato Soup
(no recipe here - it's straight from a can lol Cambell's Chunky I believe...)

... and I'm finishing it off with some hot chocolate with marshmallows :)
