... and then I ended up on a longhorn.

Last night we went to H3 Steakhouse at the Fort Worth Stock Yards for my fiance's Christmas party with his work. (Just an FYI - he works at a company he started with his dad, his aunt is the receptionist, his mom does the accounting, and there's one other guy, Brian (aka adopted member) who works there too... so this was more like a fun, family party) :)

The happy couple... after a couple of drinks ;) [You can totally tell in Justin's eyes lol]

Don't adjust your screens - you see exactly what you see:

A mouse on a cat on a dog.

Only in the stock yards - oh, and the guy takes tips for you looking (or "enjoying") his pets.

The margaritas were SO good!!!!

(Brian and me)

I drank of couple of these...

... and then I ended up on a longhorn.

Yep, it's real.

"If you make only one resolution this year, let it be to live boldly. You can control this moment: Rather than cautiously test the water, dive straight into life with freeing abandon. Imagine the person you want to be and life you want to live, then simply commit to them. Believe in yourself. Embrace your beauty. Discover a new passion. And whatever you do, wherever you go, don't be afraid to make a splash."

FINALLY - I can bust out the coat :)

Coat is from Forever 21 - $45

Texas is by far the most bipolar state. One day it's 70 degrees, then 30 the next, and back up to 70 a week later. Luckily, I have been able to wear my new coat a time or two thus far this winter :)

I have a love/hate relationship with winter. I hate the cold but I love how effortlessly-chic the fashion is in the winter.

Christmas is in a week!! And it's probably going to be warm here... Oh well.

Mama always warned me this day would come...

Recently, I've noticed that my pants have been a little tighter than normal. Actually, a very uncomfortable tight. My first thought was, "Am I shrinking my pants??" j

haha - I WISH

I've been working an office job for 4 1/2 months now. I've always had more active jobs (waitressing) which unconsciously kept me in some kind of "shape." Fast-paced walking for 5-6 hours at a time add up! My eating has stayed the same, however, it's never been all that healthy. But my active lifestyle has disappeared. 10-15 lbs has practically snuck up on me!

My mother warned me about this day. She always said, "You know you can't live this lifestyle forever and never gain the weight..." and she's right.

Looks like it's time the get in the gym!! I'll keep you guys updated on my healthy lifestyle goals :)

More makeup! (Plus reviews!)

Ok, so I've bought even more makeup recently... lol Maybe I have a problem? No. lol I just watch too many YouTube beauty videos! I get so many ideas and things I want to try. This YouTube video is the reason I bought the nude lipstick!

Maybelline "The Falsies" Mascara
I like this mascara. It's not a miracle worker or anything but it's a good mascara and does fine on my lashes. I bought it in the darkest black.

I like the wand too. It's a bit flat and curved but it seems to work.

Do my lashes look fake? No. However, I only bought this because a friend of mine wore it one day and I was SO envious of her lashes... turns out she just has really great lashes. lol

Covergirl "Perfect Blend" eyeliner in black
This stuff is okay. I mean, it's eyeliner. lol It gets the job done. It claims to be "water resistant" but it still gets a bit smudged throughout the day. For $4 I'm not complaining.

Rimmel "Stay Matte" foundation
I really like this foundation. I do notice that my skin is not as oily when I use it. It provides light-medium coverage. To me, it provides just enough to even out my skin tone (which is what I want!) I use concealer to hide blemishes and such. I think this is a great base for those who don't want anything too cake-y. I just don't feel like myself in "thick" makeup so I like my skin to look as natural as possible.

Revlon Matte Lipstick in "Mauve it Over"
I saved the best for last! This is definitely a lipstick I will repurchase. I wanted a nude colored lipstick for everyday wear but in a pink tone so it wouldn't wash me out. I love this lipstick. The color is perfect for my fair/beige skin. You do have to reapply throughout the day but not too often. And it was only $5!

Happy (early) Thanksgiving!!!

Remember, we all have something to be thankful for...

New makeup!!!! :) [makes me happy]

Loreal Extra-Volume Mascara - $5

E.L.F. eyeshadow pallet - $5

*love it!!!*

E.L.F. products are made with such amazing quality for the price. $5 for this 32 piece pallet is unbelievable!!

I figured out how to organize my make-up to make it more accessible and out of the way. I took the drawers out of my plastic storage container (from Walmart) and laid them flat in this drawer. Perfect!!

Have a wonderful week!!!! :)

Outfit of the day - Sunday lunch with the fam

I woke up Sunday and said to myself, "Ok, you've got two choices. You can put on your typical jeans, tshirt, and hoodie... or your can choose something cute."

And this is what I ended up in -

This is actually two different shirts - the purple tank is from New York & Company and the lace tank is from Express (However, I found them both at Plato's Closet for WAY less than the original person paid. The purple shirt still had the tags on it!)

My new favorite skinny jeans - Levi's (They sure are tight at first but once you get them stretched out it's ok! lol) I could finally breathe again after 30 minutes or so of getting them stretched out.

It was a no-fuss hair day. I love just sticking it up in a bun and not having to worry about it at all! In case you're wondering - makeup: Almay TLC foundation, Almay Smart Shade blush, & Maybelline Full n' Soft mascara with Covergirl LashBlast Length mascara.

I just had lunch with my family so it was a "natural" day...

What I Want: Fall Edition

Fall has finally arrived in Dallas! I'm so excited but totally bored with my current wardrobe. It's not very "fall friendly" to say the least. I've always been the type to just throw on a hoodie over my tshirt and jeans but this fall I have a "real" job so I have a reason to dress up! The way I see it - I need these cute clothes for work so I might as well wear them on the weekend!

I'm really into tights this fall. I have NEVER been a "tights" person but I love the look!

Style&Co sweater dress - $24.98
I 'Heart' Ronson dress - $24.99 (sale - orig. $50)

I am actually going to the mall after lunch today to pick up some skinny belts. I love the way these belts placed at the waist can change the whole look! I went to Charlotte Russe yesterday and found a 3-pack of them for only $10! (I didn't buy any because the particular store I went to didn't have the colors I wanted)

Look from JCPenney

I LOVE this cozy look for the weekend (or even casual Friday!)

Look from Macy's
Vintage Suzie sweater - $29.99 (sale - orig. $48)

This dress would be great for work! My work environment is business casual so I would pair this with a cozy cardigan to downplay the dressiness. I do feel as if I would be a little dressed up compared to the people I work around but you know what they say! "Dress for the job you want, not the job you have." Plus, you never know when you're going to come face-to-face with an executive and you don't want to look frumpy right??

Jones Wear dress - $23.99 (sale - orig. $80)

I have 2 black cardigans. One is overwashed and the other is ill-fitted. I really need a good, fitted cardigan.

Worthington cardigan - $11.99 (sale - orig. $36)

Now to the fun part! SHOES!!!

I've decided I should go ahead and buy some little black booties since I've wanted a pair since LAST YEAR. I have a general rule when shopping to avoid impulse buys - wait, and then buy. That way you know if you really want them or not!

Worthington 'Tallulah' shoe - $49.99 (sale - orig. $80)

And it's hard to believe but I do not have a pair of simple black pumps. I'll work on buying a pair of these before any other shoes.

Steve Madden pumps - $59.25 (sale - orig. $79)

I love YouTube. I watch beauty related videos all the time (they are very helpful!) and I've recently discovered a YouTuber who not only does beauty videos, but WORK outfits of the day as well!! She has a great sense of style in the office! She definitely knows what's "office-chic"

Check her out - RachMartino

One of my favorite looks: Dress down a pencil skirt with a basic tshirt

What are some of your fall must-haves??

In case you are wondering where the heck I've been...

Hello lovelies! I'm so sorry for my absence. My life has been really busy recently! Hmm, where to start?

My love: We are almost 6 months away from the wedding!!

We are doing well :) Just working hard and enjoying life. He threw me the sweetest surprise birthday party this past Tuesday (Oct 19). I had NO clue! My family and best friend/maid of honor drove an hour to attend. It was so thoughtful! But they literally scared the crap out of me when I walked into the apartment... not cool. He also had a candy bouquet sent to my work in our wedding colors. ♥

My job: I love it! It's going really well. I'm FINALLY done as a waitress and I found my way into the mortgage business. We have done a ton of business (which is good news for me!) so I've been able to put in overtime. It's a temp to perm job (meaning I have to work 3 months through the temp agency then I can be invited to become a perm employee) and my 3 months ends at the end of this month!! I'm feeling good about an invitation but please still keep me in your prayers
and hope all goes as planned!

My living situation: OH. MY. GOSH. My fiancé and I just moved into the biggest, nicest apartment we've ever had! I am in love for sure. (Not just with him, but the apartment lol) The kitchen has darkened wood, black appliances, and a stainless steel fridge... not to mention the place is HUGE. Plus, the new part of town is very nice and clean :) That's always good!

My furry men: Dierks and Jake are doing well too. Just growing and we're hoping they mature here before too long... lol They can still be a little feisty and Jake doesn't listen well. That's okay. In time, in time...

My family: My little brother is away in Mobile, AL cleaning up the oil spill. My fiance, my other brother, and I decided to take a little road-trip to go see him :)

Mississippi is missing because we took over 500 pictures and have yet to sort through them on the computer... so here's a few I had on hand. Unfortunately, no Mississippi signs. lol

My fiancé, brother Justin (19), and brother Daniel (13)

My life: I turned 24 on October 19. I have to say it was one of my best birthdays to date. Justin made it very special for me :) I'm happy with where I am at 24. I've finally landed a "real" job and I'm getting married in 6 months to a wonderful man. I do have a few new [birth] year resolutions: 1. Learn how to cook and 2. Build on my small shoe collection.

You could be that ONE person

I don't know if many of you have heard about the tragic incident at the University of Texas at Austin yesterday - but a student there at the school took an AK-47 (gun) to campus and committed suicide.

(News story here)

Colton, a 19 year old sophomore at UT, evidently had no intentions of hurting anyone but himself. It is thought that he was attempting a police-assisted suicide (which is when a person provokes the police in hopes they will shoot and kill him/her) but after the failed attempt, he finally just shot himself. This guy has family coming forward in complete shock because they claim he showed no signs that would lead up to this occasion. This is what his cousin had to say:

"He was a very smart guy; very intelligent," said a man who wished to be identified only as "Marcus," Tooley's cousin. "Excellent student and wouldn't or couldn't hurt a fly. If he was depressed, you'd never know it."

Strangely, there are no friends who have come forward to speak about him. He carried this gun to school and had multiple opportunities to hurt or kill others but never did. One student who came across him at the university during his raid said that as he rushed past her, he said "Excuse me." and kept walking.

This is a sad, lonely person who felt he had no other option. It really makes me wonder...

What if ONE person would have said to him, "Hey man, you wanna grab lunch?" What if ONE person reached out and tried to start a friendship?

What if ONE person was all it took to save his life?

You never know what someone is going through at any moment. How many people out there are crying out for just ONE friend? How many people just need ONE person to change their life... to SAVE their life.

You could be that ONE person.

Just keep this in mind as you go through life... you never know when the opportunity to be that ONE person for someone will come up. When you go to work or class or whatever you have scheduled for tomorrow, look around. Pay attention to those around you. Don't judge a person by their appearance. They may seem totally fine.

This sophomore at UT Austin seemed perfectly fine.

Don't be afraid to reach out to people. If you get rejected, oh well... at least you know you tried.

But trust me, it will be worth it when you befriend a person in need of a friend and you find out later that YOU made a difference in their life. You quite possibly could be the SOLE PERSON who saves their life.

Who cares if they are different! Say hello :) That's all it takes.

Matte skin all day? Why I think I will :)

Unfortunately, I have pretty oily skin. On any normal weekday, I've got a Crisco-inspired forehead by 10am. I am constantly blotting all day to avoid blinding anyone from the reflection of my T-zone. I've tried an assortment of lotions and makeup products promising a "matte" result... and nothing ever seemed to control the oily beast escaping from my skin.

That is, until I got a little sample of this product in my Allure magazine last month:

$10.79 at Walmart

As Usher would say: "Oh my gosh, I'm so in love - You make me wanna say Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh... OH MY GOSH"

I had to buy it.

Seriously, I can go throughout the WHOLE workday (that's 10 hours right now because we're working overtime!) and not have to blot one time. I love love love this stuff!

The texture is a bit strange but it works. A little bit goes a long way, and best of all - it can double as eyeshadow primer! (Why buy 2 products when 1 can get the job done?) Also, I've got super sensitive skin and this product doesn't irritate it at all!!

I definitely give it 5 stars.

Here are a few other positive reviews I've found online: Gouldylox Reviews, xoladiihoneyxo, Beauty Girl Musings (says it's a must-have!), & the Beauty Alchemist
